This pose is usually for warm-ups. Before you do anything advanced, you have to get your body ready with the lotus pose. It just involves a breathing pattern.
Downward facing dog: this poses is for your lower body. Your abs, hamstrings, and calves, but it also impacts your back and your arms.
How to do it
- Start on all fours. Move your arms forward until fully stretched.
- Take your knees off the ground until you assume a V pose while keeping your legs and back straight.
If you have seen a cobra before, I think you get the idea of how this pose goes. It is one of the most popular backbend poses. It stretches the spine, abs, shoulders and frees the lungs and chest.
How to do it
- Lie fully stretched with your face down on a mat with your elbows by your side.
- Slowly lift your upper body off the ground, and maintain the position.
Increased Flexibility: well, obviously. During your first yoga section, you probably wonâ€™t even be able to touch your toes. But after some time, you will discover a loosening of your muscles, and you will soon be able to take on more difficult poses.
Reduces Stress and Anxiety: Yoga is popularly known as a stress remedy. Studies have shown that the more you do, the less cortisol secretion. Cortisol is the stress hormone. Yoga is also known to help reduce feelings of anxiety. One way to get rid of mental and physical stress, is that awesome?
Increases bone, cartilage, and joint health: Weight-bearing exercises are good for the bones, and many yoga poses require you to carry your own weight. Also, the reduction of cortisol secretion makes for increased calcium in the bones. When you practice yoga, you take your joints for a full spin, just like revving a car. Working your joints like that keeps them soaked.
Increases your heart rate: It doesnâ€™t actually fit in perfectly as a cardio exercise, but some really intense poses can work your heart muscles. Generally, though, since it helps reduce stress, it helps lower your blood pressure. Hence it helps prevent some heart diseases associated with high blood pressure.
